Professional Accreditation

The 5Cs Accreditation

The 5Cs Accreditation enables sport psychology practitioners to become more knowledgeable and skilled at delivering our framework as effectively as possible. It aims to ensure that the framework is applied creatively and responsibly with individuals, teams and organisations.

Skills developed as a 5Cs practitioner

Skills developed as a 5Cs practitioner

  • Use the 5Cs in individual consultation for raising awareness and understanding, case formulation, and strategic intervention work
  • Apply a 5Cs lens to groups and teams to help educate and create a shared understanding and pathway to more optimal team performance
  • Engage coaches and support staff to integrate the 5Cs within training and practice design
  • Conduct coach and athlete observation and provide feedback on the 5Cs in action
  • Employ the 5Cs for scenario and problem-based learning to inform preparation for specific competition situations
  • Engage the 5Cs as elements of supporting an organisational culture with a commitment to shared values and behaviours

A growing community with professional development opportunities

The programme aims to build a community of 5C practitioners who are trained to integrate the framework where appropriate to the sporting clients with whom they work. Once accredited, there is access to resources and ongoing CPD opportunities for our community to support practitioners in their application of the 5Cs framework to varying contexts.

After successful accreditation and inclusion in our Directory of Practitioners, members have the opportunity to maintain their status through access to the 5Cs accredited member area with scheduled CPD events and group intervision opportunities. Accredited practitioners will also gain preferential access to the 5Cs perceptions tools to facilitate their services to clients.

Frequently asked questions

Becoming an accredited practitioner in the 5Cs (Commitment, Communication, Concentration, Control, Confidence) requires individuals to be educated and trained to postgraduate MSc level and working in the field of sport psychology. The 5Cs framework is largely informed by existing concepts in psychology and sport psychology, and it is important that those we accredit have an existing academic grounding in the field. The accreditation is for established practitioners seeking further CPD and those early career practitioners under supervision who are building their services following postgraduate study.

To become accredited, you must first meet the academic requirements of postgraduate study completion in sport psychology and have completed, or be under, supervision on a professional training pathway (e.g., SEPAR, QSEP, CMPC, EuroPsy. ISSP). Then, on entry to the programme, you must complete all three stages: a series of five short online modules and knowledge check, a two-day in-person training to further develop your knowledge of 5Cs tools and practical skills in applying the framework, and a final presentation and assessment demonstrating your implementation of the 5Cs in your work.

The accreditation process will take between 6 to 12 months depending on your own pace. The online modules can be completed at your leisure from 4-6 weeks before the two-day in-person training date. Then, practitioners have up to 9 months to complete the assessment phase. Look out for the dates of the in-person training and register your interest.

The 5Cs Accreditation costs £699 which is inclusive of: online modules access (stage 1), in person training (stage 2), book, coaching cards, access and permission to use profiling tool, a range of templates and tools for your work, CPD forum, assessment of portfolio (stage 3) plus Accredited membership for 1 year. In the two day training, refreshments and lunches are covered.

Yes, provided that you maintain your accredited membership. After 1 year of access and certification, there will be opportunities as Accredited member to maintain your annual practice certification in the directory, and also access CPD and online tools as part of ongoing engagement with the 5Cs. The annual re-certification fee and directory membership should you chose to remain active will be £99 [different costs may apply to practitioners from developing nations]. There will be additional fees for events/CPD but acknowledging your ongoing practice certificate will enable you to continue getting discounts for your clients on the profiling tool that we will be offering to practitioners.

Yes. You are able to deliver the framework after the two day training course as part of your assessment. Once you complete the accreditation process and receive your certificate, you will also be able to use the 5Cs logo on your materials and be recognised with the 5Cs Practitioner logo.
